Evening of Irish Music & Dance: Traditional and Contemporary

  • 26 Jun 2016
  • 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Irish Society Hall, 29 Domain Terrace, Spreydon, Christchurch

The O’Neill School of Irish Dance was founded in 1988 by Sean and Cathy O’Neill both of whom were successful competitive dancers before taking up teaching. They have been joined by teachers Lynley Bowler and Tammie Cookson to teach dancers from beginners (which can start at 4 years) through to adults.

You are invited to be part of the audience for an evening of Irish music and dance, with both traditional and contemporary team dancing demonstrations, and guest musicians including: Lindsey Shields (Dunedin); Tessa White (fiddle) and Jonathan Le Cocq (guitar), Harp students of Helen Webby, and guest instrumentalists from a variety of Christchurch’s Celtic music groups.

This year O’Neill School of Irish Dance have set themselves a goal to put Christchurch, New Zealand on the World Irish Dancing Map. In 2017, our intention is to take teams of dancers to compete at the World Championship in Dublin, Ireland. Funds raised by this concert will contribute toward the costs of this trip.
